I’m excited to share an update on our Passive House project in Downers Grove. We made an office outing there last week and got all giddy seeing finishes going in. Great job, Evolutionary Home Builders on another beautiful project!

The project achieved Pre-Certification status from PHIUS in September, so aside from looking and feeling great, we know it will perform to the highest level of efficiency. Here’s a shot of the kitchen island, with Pietra Cardosa waterfall countertop and the walnut feature wall in the background.

The cabinetry, built-ins, and trim are all clear sealed maple, creating a continuous, unified interior. Our intention was to create a clean, bright, open space, with an organic, branching wood pattern running throughout, and it’s definitely working. The trim seems to come alive where it turns into built-ins and cabinetry.

As on all our projects, the inside-outside connections are important. This view is from the interior hall toward what will be the south-facing deck…

…and this is the two-story screened porch for dining below and sleeping and reading above: with the big oak in the back yard, the upper porch will feel a bit like a tree house!

Completion is expected around Thanksgiving, and we will definitely be posting updates! The bathrooms are extraordinary, if hard to photograph, and the salvaged maple floor on the upper level is great, but currently covered with protective paper. More soon!
